Frequently Asked Questions

An IPO is when a company decides to list on the stock exchange and offer its shares to the public for the first time. Until then, it’s usually owned by founders, early investors, or private funds. After listing, anyone with a trading account can buy or sell those shares.

You can just check the IPO Dashboard. It usually has everything you’d look for - issue dates, price band, lot size, and a quick summary of the company. It’s not super deep research, but enough to get a basic understanding without opening five different sites

Most people apply through their broker app or net banking. You place a bid using UPI or ASBA, and the amount gets blocked in your account. It stays blocked until allotment is finalised. If you don’t get the shares, the amount is released automatically.

GMP, or grey market premium, is an unofficial price people quote before the stock actually lists. It gives a rough idea of how the market is feeling about that IPO. That said, it’s not regulated and doesn’t always reflect where the stock will actually op

It shows how much demand an IPO is getting. You’ll usually see it split across retail investors, high-net-worth individuals, and institutions. If something is heavily subscribed, it means more people have applied than the number of shares available but that still doesn’t guarantee good returns.

Once the stock is listed, you can track it like any other stock on your platform. The IPO Performance section just puts that information together like listing price, current price, and how it’s moved since - so you don’t have to piece it together yourself.

One of the main challenges is that there isn’t much past data to rely on. You’re mostly going by company filings, market sentiment, and expectations. Prices can be quite unpredictable in the first few days, and sometimes things don’t go the way people expected.

Yes, once the shares are listed and credited to your account, you can sell them whenever you want. Some people prefer to exit on listing day, especially if there’s a gain. Others hold for longer if they believe in the company.

Not really. There are IPOs that list strong and give quick gains, but there are also many that don’t perform well or fall after listing. It’s easy to remember the success stories, but it’s worth looking at both sides before deciding.
